Facebook for no doubt has become most common medium for social networking, shaping up a completely different world (although virtual) as we experience it today. The substantial reach coupled with improved accessibility makes it quite popular among people of all age groups.

Making quick status updates or sharing some personal information with people whom you trust is basic USP of Facebook. But do you make sure that the people whom you exchange information (most of the times being contentious) with are intended one? Changing privacy settings i.e. disabling unknown people to see your Facebook profile and make access to it. One should notify it to Facebook to reduce quantum of friend requests and receive requests from friends of friends only. Similarly, you can turn on login notifications i.e. receiving text messages/ mails whenever your account has been logged in from unknown computer/browser or enable login approvals i.e. different code will be send every time you log in your account from different computer.

Be Alert! Never click on the suspicious links and manage unknown friend requests intelligently. Scammers tend to use such dirty tricks to fool people and hack their accounts. Such links directs the user to phishing websites to extract personal information about the user.

Never ever share log in information with anyone, not even with those whom you trust the most. Many pages or contests may ask you to submit such information to participate given fake prize offers. This also violates Facebook Statement of Rights & Responsibilities. Always Log Out when you’re not supposed to use your Facebook account.

One must remember ‘Prevention is better than cure’ and needs to empower oneself with constant improvement in technology rather than just getting defamed or ruined by such deceitful people!
